NECO decided to undertake the #VIBRATAP project because of the emerging technology of vibration assisted machining.
However, most vibration machining solutions consist of devices attached to the tool bed, or specific vibration systems for turning. Solutions where the tool causes the cut by rotation and vibration have been studied for deep hole drilling operations, but until now tapping has not been a pioneering process in implementing or even proposing this type of solution.

When tapping relatively deep blind holes, the problem of chip accumulation in the tapping channels has led NECO, with the technological support of TECNALIA Research & Innovation and the financial support of the HAZITEK programme of the Basque Government, to look for possible alternatives to those currently on the market for tapping resistant materials, taking the INCONEL 718 as a reference point.
